Environmental Protection
The Role of Environmental Protection in Sustainable Development
Environmental protection is an important part of sustainable development because of its inherent forward-looking agenda. There is an increasing global awareness of the need for better environmental policy, as can be seen through the efforts of various summit meetings and protocols. Environmental protection seeks to improve the current resource base, while putting in place a framework for continuing to protect and preserve vital resources for future generations.
Environmental protection as an aspect of sustainable development can take on many forms. Projects may be aimed at improving upon past problems such as the mismanagement of waste and pollution or upon future issues such as transportation and the availability of green space. Environmental protection is considered one of the three pillars of sustainable development, along with sustainable economic development and social development.
