Clean Water
The Role of Clean Water in Sustainable Development
Clean water is important for sustainable development because of its relevance to environmental protection and health concerns. It provides sustenance to people and their surroundings. The threats to clean water can be found in the private and public sectors, yet successful programs to improve water quality and quantity must be endorsed by many stakeholders. Current issues include over consumption, pollution of limited resources, access concerns caused by inadequate infrastructure and/or treatment of polluted sources and other health and environment related issues.
Clean water projects could include projects to improve water quality as well as provide better systems for regulating water use. For many of these projects cost recovery remains an issue because of the public works nature of water improvement. The mitigation of pollutants and increased demand on already strained resources will continue to play a significant role in sustaining this precious resource.
